When teaching our beloved five year old son, Reuben, Psalm 1, I had him say it after me, verse by verse. When he came to the last verse (verse 6), which reads “For the LORD knoweth (watches over) the way of the righteous”, he said, “For the LORD watches over EVERYTHING.” When I tried to correct him by saying, “watches over the way of the righteous”, he quickly retorted saying, “I am right, am I not? The LORD watches over EVERYTHING” with a smile on his face, to which I had to recognize that out of the mouth of babes, God speaks for certain, perfecting praise (Matthew 21:16). Though contextually, the Psalmist was expressing that the Lord’s eyes are on the righteous, the ones who are justified by the blood of Jesus Christ, to preserve them, while the ways of the ungodly will perish, what my son was expressing was accurate, factual and true as well.

God watches over or knows EVERYTHING indeed. Even before we were formed in our mother’s womb, He knew us (Jeremiah 1:5) and until the very end of the age, He has promised to be with us (Matthew 28:20). Known unto God are ALL His works from the beginning of the world (Acts 15:18). He looks throughout the whole earth and sees EVERYTHING under the heavens (Job 28:24 (NLT)). And there is nothing of His creation (which includes everyone/everything) that is hidden from Him; all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account (Hebrews 4:13). He is the Ancient of days (Daniel 7:9) who knows EVERYTHING about YOU and ME INTIMATELY, to the point that He is so interested in us, that He even knows the number of hairs in our head (Matthew 10:30).

Points to ponder:
When someone is in love, that person is always watching the person being loved. They, try not to even wink for a moment for the fear that the object of their love and affection may no longer be in their sight. God is deeply in love with you and me and he neither slumbers nor sleep, constantly watching over you and me; keeping you and me in his constant gaze. In fact, all of creation is watched by Him as our much loved son aptly reminded me, The LORD watches over EVERYTHING, and he is right. Am I / Are you in love with God? for if we do, we would desire to dwell in the presence of God, seek him and gaze upon his beauty, ALL the days of our life (Psalm 27:4).
