James 5:11 informs us that the Lord is very pitiful and of tender mercy implying that he is sympathetic and full of compassion. Psalm 34:18 states that the Lord is nigh unto those who have a broken heart and saves those with a contrite spirit. So when our heart is broken, God’s heart that is full of compassion, cares about our heart condition and he comes close to us.
In a medical sense, God’s heart was broken by the spear that jabbed him on his side, when he hung on the Cross, so when our hearts get broken, He is there for us! You can count on that.
James 5:11 (KJV)
11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
Psalm 34:18 (KJV)
18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
