Professional Speaking :: Jesus The Pilot

I once heard the story of a man and a little girl that were flying in the same airplane, when suddenly a storm broke out. All the passengers in the airplane visibly expressed their emotions of panic and apprehension, which this man shared as well. While the future of the flight seemed ominous, a little girl kept reading a book as if the storm meant nothing to her. She was calm, composed, not worried and unafraid. When the airplane reached the destination, as the passengers disembarked, the man reached out to the girl and asked as to how she could be so calm and composed amidst the storm. The little girl responded, “Sir, my dad is the pilot, and he is taking me home.”

The sailor’s hymn, “Jesus, Savior, Pilot me” is a classic whose first and last stanza are as follows:
Jesus, Savior, pilot me
Over life’s tempestuous sea;
Unknown waves before me roll,
Hiding rock and treacherous shoal.
Chart and compass come from Thee;
Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

When at last I near the shore,
And the fearful breakers roar
’Twixt me and the peaceful rest,
Then, while leaning on Thy breast,
May I hear Thee say to me,
“Fear not, I will pilot thee.”

Jesus is The Pilot. He carries us over any of life’s tempestuous situations; He carries us home. Exodus 19:4 states that God carried the Israelites out of Egypt on Eagle’s wings and brought them to himself. What does this mean? The Prophet Ezekiel sees in his vision, four faces in the cherubs that are indicative of the four-fold person of Jesus Christ – one face of a lion, one face of an ox, one face of a Man and one face of an eagle (Ezekiel 1:10). Jesus in the book of Matthew is portrayed as a King (face of lion; Lion of Judah). In the book of Mark, Jesus is portrayed as a faithful servant (face of an ox) while the book of Luke portrays Jesus as the Son of Man (face of man). The book of John portrays Jesus as the Son of God (face of an eagle). Since man cannot fly on his own, God sent his Eagle, Jesus Christ, to carry his people, back to himself.

Points to ponder:
Jesus The Pilot carries us and takes us to our home with God (in heavenly places). Ephesians 2:6 states that he has made us sit in heavenly places (our home). Are you being carried by Jesus The Pilot? For when he does, we have nothing to be worried about, and we can be calm, composed and unafraid, amidst all storms. He is saying “Fear not, I will pilot thee.

Exodus 19:4 (KJV)
Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.

Ephesians 2:4-6 (KJV)
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

Professional Speaking :: Jesus The Optometrist

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, an optometrist is a professional who performs eye exams to check for vision problems and diseases and prescribes eyeglasses or contact lenses as needed to help recover sight.  The day after my Lasik eye surgery, I saw with such clarity that an incredible sense of joy just filled my being and I could emphatically relate to the expression of the blind man, whose sight Jesus restored – “I was once blind, but now I see.” (John 9:25).

Jesus said that the Spirit of the Lord was upon him and one of his charters was to recover sight to the blind (Luke 4:18). Jesus is The Optometrist, who can help you recover your spiritual sight in order for you to be able to see the sovereignty of God in your life. The Bible says, “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8) and only Jesus can make us have a pure heart (by his grace through faith when we believe in Him). The devil (god of this world) has blinded the eyes of many who do not believe, lest the glorious light of the gospel of Jesus Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them (2 Corinthians 4:4).

Points to ponder:
Only with Jesus The Optometrist, can you truly say, “I was once blind, but now I see.” Are you blind or can you see? Has Jesus The Optometrist recovered your sight so that you can see the glory of God and bring glory to his Name?

Luke 4:18-19 (KJV)
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

John 9:25 (KJV)
25 He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner or no, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

Professional Speaking :: Jesus The Nurse

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, a nurse (registered nurse) provides and coordinates patient care, educates patients and the public about various health conditions, and provides advice and emotional support to patients and their family members. In other words, a nurse is one who dispenses medicines and is a caregiver to those who are sick.

The Bible teaches us that with the stripes of Jesus we are healed (Isaiah 53:5). In other words, Jesus is The Nurse who provides spiritual medicine for the healing of our souls with his stripes. The Bible also advises us to cast all our burdens (worries and cares) on Jesus, for He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). Jesus, The Nurse dispenses saving medicine and he cares for us.

Points to ponder:
Jesus gives the medicine to save your soul, unreservedly when you believe in him, and he cares for you, so don’t worry about anything, but give him all your worries and cares. Are you under the care of Jesus The Nurse?

Isaiah 53:4-6 (KJV)
Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Professional Speaking :: Jesus The Magician

The first part of the lyrics of the song, “King Herod’s Song” in Andrew Llyod Webber’s rock opera classic, “Jesus Christ Superstar” goes as follows:
Jesus, I am overjoyed to meet you face to face. You’ve been getting quite a name all around the place.
Healing cripples, raising from the dead. And now I understand you’re God, At least, that’s what you’ve said.
So, you are the Christ, you’re the great Jesus Christ. Prove to me that you’re divine; change my water into wine.
That’s all you need do, then I’ll know it’s all true. Come on, King of the Jews.
Jesus, you just won’t believe the hit you’ve made around here. You are all we talk about, the wonder of the year.
Oh what a pity if it’s all a lie. Still, I’m sure that you can rock the cynics if you tried.
So, you are the Christ, you’re the great Jesus Christ. Prove to me that you’re no fool; walk across my swimming pool.
If you do that for me, then I’ll let you go free. Come on, King of the Jews.
I only ask what I’d ask any superstar.”

This is a musical rendition of the account mentioned in Luke 23:6-12. When Jesus was brought before Herod, Herod was exceedingly glad to finally meet him face to face, since Herod had heard a great deal of Jesus’ doings and expected some sort of miracle to be performed by Jesus for him. Herod sought more of a magic show than a true miracle that brought glory to God and Jesus remained silent before Herod. Herod then ridicules and mocks Jesus and sends him back to Pilate and on that very same day, Herod and Pilate became friends, for they were enemies before that. What Herod failed to recognize was that while Jesus did not perform a magical sign before Herod, when he was asked to, magic did happen that day – for enemies became friends.

Points to ponder:
Those who are in love with the world are enemies of God (James 4:4). Jesus, The Magician is the Only One who can make us friends with God (Romans 5:10-11). Are you a friend of God? If not, believe in Jesus, The Magician (Superstar), and become a friend of God.

Luke 23:8-12 (KJV)
8 And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.
9 Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.
10 And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.
11 And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.
12 And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.

Romas 5:10-11 (KJV)
10 For since our friendship with God was restored by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be saved through the life of his Son.
11 So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God.

Professional Speaking :: Jesus The Lifeguard

I  gave my six year old son, Reuben a pen and a paper and asked him to draw something that came to his mind. He drew two pictures, one of which was Jesus on the Cross and the other one was a picture of Peter, the disciple of Jesus Christ, walking on water. A well-known one-liner that is often seen on Christian T-Shirts is “My lifeguard walks on water” referring to this account of Peter walking on water, when he had his eyes fixed on Jesus.

A lifeguard is one who is responsible to ensure the safety of others from drowning. A lifeguard is vigilant often spotting and sensing terminal danger. A person who is drowning is responded to, the moment he makes eye contact with the lifeguard, especially when he is in the need of being saved. Jesus is The Lifeguard.

Jesus is vigilant and always watching, never sleeping nor slumbering, always sensing and spotting any danger to our soul and life (Psalm 121:3-5,7-8). We can lift up our eyes to Jesus Christ, the Lord and Lifeguard, from whom comes our help (Psalm 121:1).  The Bible teaches us that we do not need to worry about anything, but instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Then we will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything that we can understand and His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. In other words, when you feel you are drowning in life situations, don’t worry – for Jesus The Lifeguard walks on water.

Points to ponder:
Do you have the peace of God guarding your heart and mind? Don’t worry about anything but in and for everything pray and give thanks, after fixing your eyes on Jesus The Lifeguard, looking unto Him, the author and finisher of our faith, whose peace passeth all understanding. When Jesus The Lifeguard is holding on to you and me, we cannot drown in life’s situation, no matter how stormy the wind or high the waves.

Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Psalm 121:1-8 (NLT)
I look up to the mountains — does my help come from there?
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth!
He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber.
Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps.
The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade.
The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night.
The Lord keeps you from all harm and watches over your life.
The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever.

Professional Speaking :: Jesus The King (of kings)

A monarchy is a form of government in which a single person has sovereign authority and undivided rule over a nation or state. The head of a monarchy is a monarch and a male monarch is conferred the title of a king. The last song in the album, “We cry out: Worship project” by Jeremy Camp is a powerful song entitled “King Jesus”. So is Jesus The King?

It is interesting to note that in the birth of Jesus, he was referred to as a king when the wise men from the east asked, “Where is he [Jesus], who is born, KING of the Jews?” (Matthew 2:2). Also in his death, the inscription in Latin above his head, on the Cross, read INRI which stands for IESVS NAZARENVS REX IVDAEORVM, which means Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews (John 19:19). In his life and in his death, Jesus is King, but because he willingly offered to lay down his life for the Salvation of mankind,  God the Father, conferred on him a name above all names; a title of the KING OF KINGS AND THE LORD OF LORDS  which is written on his thigh (Revelation 19:16), and to this KING of kings, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess, that He [Jesus] is LORD.  Jesus is The King (of kings).

Points to ponder:
A king has sovereign authority and undivided rule over his kingdom and if you and I are part of God’s kingdom, have we allowed Jesus to have Sovereign authority and undivided rule over our lives? In the presence of a King, the best posture for us to be in, is on our knees, confessing that He is Lord. Are/Am you/I before Jesus, The King.

Revelation 19:16 (KJV)
16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Revelation 17:14 (KJV)
14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

Professional Speaking :: Jesus The Key Holder

I am assuming that it is equally surprising to you as it was to me, to find out that “Key Holder” is actually a professional job title, like a Doctor or Engineer or Lawyer. Kyle Glazier, eHow’s contributor writes in the ‘Money’ section of eHow.com, that a key holder is an employee (generally in a retail setting), who takes on additional responsibilities similar to those held by management with the main distinguishing feature of having the ability to open and close the store.

Now would we be able to consider Jesus to be The Key Holder? Absolutely. Isaiah 22:22 is prophetically referring to Jesus Christ, in describing the duties of Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, to whom it is stated that the key of the house of David will be laid upon his shoulder and what he shall open, none shall shut and what he shall shut, none shall open. Isaiah 9:6-7 refers prophetically to the coming of Jesus the Messiah, on whose shoulders shall rest the government. In the book of Revelation, it is said of Jesus, who is holy and true, to be the holder of this key of David (Revelation 3:7), which is God’s government in and through Jesus, a government of peace, of whose increase there shall be no end (Isaiah 9:7). The Gospel of Matthew (first book of the New Testament) establishes that Jesus holds the keys of the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 16:19) and Revelation (last book of the New Testament) establishes that Jesus who was dead is now alive and alive forevermore and is the holder of the keys of hell and of death (Revelation 1:18). Jesus is The Key Holder – holder of the keys of the kingdom of heaven and of hell.

Points to ponder:
Jesus is the Key to have access to God the Father, because no one can come to Father God, except by Him and this door that he has opened to heaven (Revelation 4:1) no one can shut. He is also the holder of the keys to hell and to death and when we believe in him and receive him, and repent of our wicked ways, he shuts the door to hell and to death, for we inherit eternal life, and that door which he shuts (to death) no one can open. The Bible says, “Behold, Jesus stands at the door (of your life) and knocks, if you hear him, and open your door, he will come in and dine with you and you with him.” (Revelation 3:20). Have you opened the door (of your life) to Jesus, The Key Holder, so that he can open the door to heaven and shut the door to hell and death for you?

Matthew 16:19 (KJV)
19 And I [Jesus] will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Revelation 3:7 (KJV)
7 And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;

Revelation 1:18 (KJV)
18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Revelation 3:20 (KJV)

20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Professional Speaking :: Jesus The Judge

Well, you have probably heard of the phrase “God will judge you!” and never paused to wonder as to who this God is that will judge us? The Bible says, Jesus is the Judge that is ready to judge the living and the dead (1 Peter 4:5) but can we be so certain?

The answer to the question”How to become a Judge? (in the US legal system)” in HowStuffWorks.com highlights that in order to become a Judge, one must first be a lawyer (having obtained the necessary credentials), get experience and when a Judge’s position becomes vacant, a Judge is appointed or elected. So is Jesus a lawyer? The past article, Jesus The Advocate established the fact that Jesus is The Lawyer/Advocate. Now, is Jesus appointed to be The Judge? The Bible states that the Father (God) judges no man, but has committed all judgment unto his Only begotten Son, Jesus Christ (John 5:22). In other words, Jesus, God’s elect, is appointed by God the Father to be the Judge over all (living and dead). But does Jesus have the experience? John 5:27 states that God has given Jesus the authority, because he is the Son of man. What is interesting to note, is that Jesus is appointed to be the Judge over all men, because he is the only one in the Triune Godhead who has the experience of being a man (John 5:27) and being made in the likeness of man (Philippians 2:7-8), he was tempted as we are, yet without sin and so he can be our advocate, executing righteous judgments (Hebrews 4:15). Jesus is The Judge.

Points to ponder:
Hebrews 9:27 states, that it is appointed unto man to die once and then the judgment. When Jesus, The Judge judges you/me in righteous judgment, is he going to find you/me innocent (having his own righteousness imputed on us for having believed in him) or guilty (rejecting to accept his grace and not believing in him)? We are all guilty until proven innocent. How will you/I face Jesus, The Judge?

John 5:22-30 (KJV)
22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;
27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

Professional Speaking :: Jesus The Janitor

While the title of this article may seem demeaning of Jesus, the God of the universe, I pray you read the entire article before drawing any conclusions. Unfortunately, Janitors are considered to be a sub-class of society because of the nature of work that they perform, but early in my career, I came to learn that we ought to respect everyone within our corporate world, for who they are in life and not necessarily for what they do for their livelihood. Infact, I would argue that a janitor is equally important, if not more, than the President of a company, because if the President does not show up to work for a day, the company may be able to still operate optimally, which cannot be said of a janitor whose absence can have some serious repercussions (soiled toilets, unclean workspaces, stench, etc.), decreasing the productivity of the workers.

Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines the word ‘Janitor’ as someone keeps the premises of a building clean and makes repairs. When a Janitor is done with cleaning the mess in the building, there is no remanence of any mess and the building is in a state as if it was never unclean. When things don’t function properly, the Janitor fixes the broken things to make them function again. Can we consider Jesus Christ to be a Janitor then? Absolutely.

The Bible tells us that we are God’s building (1 Corinthians 3:9) and Jesus keeps our lives clean. No matter how messy our lives are or have been, Jesus’ blood washes all sin (1 John 1:7) and makes us clean. If you have had a totally messed up life and you think that you don’t stand a chance, think again (i.e., repent) for the Lord says, “Come NOW, let us reason together; though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though your sins are red as crimson, they shall be as wool” (Isaiah 1:18). Even adulterers, those in addictions, cheats, fornicators, the immoral, the impure, idolators, liars, murderers, and for that matter any kind of sinner (the chief of whom is me), has a chance with Jesus Christ, if they repent. Not only does Jesus, The Janitor, clean us, but he makes repairs of our life, so that we are no longer broken and no longer slaves under bondage to the former ways of our sinful lives. He mays us function again. Jesus is The Janitor.

Points to ponder:
Have you reasoned with the Lord, for he says, though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be white as snow, when you believe in Jesus, for by faith (belief) and repentance is one saved and made to function again. In other words, have you been cleaned and repaired by Jesus, The Janitor?

1 Corinthians 3:9 (KJV)
9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.

Isaiah 1:18 (KJV)
18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

1 John 1:7-9 (KJV)
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Professional Speaking :: Jesus The Inventor

Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines the word ‘Inventor’ as someone who produces something (useful) for the first time. In other words, an inventor is someone who makes something new that is useful. Can we consider Jesus Christ to be an inventor then? Absolutely.

Jesus is The Inventor of all times. The LIGHT of the world, not only created (made new) the world out of darkness (Genesis 1; Colossians 1:16-18) but he also makes his light to shine the darkness of sin out of our lives when we believe in him (2 Corinthians 4:6). When one believes and abides in Christ Jesus, he/she is a new creature (an invention); the old has passed are passed away; behold all things are made (invented to be) new (2 Corinthians 5:17). Not only is the person made new, but the person is made useful (or profitable) unto God, just as we see in the transformation of the runaway slave Philemon, who in times past was useless to Onesimus his master, but is made useful to both Onesimus and to Paul in the work of God (Philemon 1:11).

Points to ponder:
Are you an invention of Jesus? In other words, have you been made new and useful by and for Jesus Christ, The Inventor (of all things). If not, believe in him today, because now is the day to be invented (made new) (2 Corinthians 6:2). Tarry no further. And for those have been made new for having believed in Jesus, are you/I useful (profitable) unto God as his invention?

2 Corinthians 4:6 (KJV)
For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Philemon 1:11 (KJV)
11 Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:
