The Word of God :: Jesus Christ

The Bible is a fascinating book, inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right (2 Timothy 3:16; NLT). It is the written word of God.

From the Bible, we learn that the Word of God is God himself i.e. Jesus Christ. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God (John 1:1), speaking about Jesus. Interestingly though, it is not only in the beginning that Jesus is known as the Word of God, but in the end as well. In the book of Revelation, when Jesus Christ is unveiled to the world in all of his glory as King of kings and Lord of lords and as Judge of the world, his name is called The Word of God (Revelation 19:13). In both, the genesis and consummation of God’s plan, we see Jesus Christ is The Word of God.

Points to ponder:
Do you have The Word of God in you? In other words, have you believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who is The Word of God?

John 1:1 (KJV)
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Revelation 19:11-16 (KJV)
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords.

The word of God :: Genuine

The Bible is a fascinating book, inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right (2 Timothy 3:16; NLT). It is the written word of God.

From the Bible, we learn that the word of God is a GENUINE, i.e., pure and concordant with facts. In a world that is filled with phonies, there is one place we can turn to during our dire times, and that is the word of God. Not only is the word of God a guide and a guard to us, it is also genuine, because it is inspired by the genuine God over all. It is pure, because it is spoken by the pure and perfect holy God.

Points to ponder:
You can blindly trust in the word of God, because it is genuine. Do you?

Proverbs 30:5 (KJV)
Every word of God is pure (genuine): he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

The word of God :: Guard

The Bible is a fascinating book, inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right (2 Timothy 3:16; NLT). It is the written word of God.

From the Bible, we learn that the word of God is a GUARD – against sinning. When we hide the word of God in our hearts, we are guarded from sinning against him (Psalm 119:11). When we find ourselves willfully sinning against God, we must take a moment to see if the word of God is controlling our heart or not, for out of it comes the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23). What you would find is that there is a direct correlation between the quality time spent in meditating on the word of God and our life of holiness.

Points to ponder:
Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control us – we must subdue it and be its master (Genesis 4:7), which is possible when we hide the word of God in our heart. Is your heart and mine, filled with the word of God from his word?

Psalm 119:11 (KJV)
11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

The word of God :: Guide

The Bible is a fascinating book, inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right (2 Timothy 3:16; NLT). It is the written word of God.

From the Bible, we learn that the word of God is a GUIDE – a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. When you walk through life’s darkest alleys (such as abuse, alcoholism, addiction, depression, etc), and you feel lonely and lost with no one to show you the way to Peace, you can count on the Bible and turn to it to show you the light on your’s life’s path – for in it you will find the Light of the world (John 8:12), Jesus Christ, who is THE WAY (John 14:6)

Points to ponder:
Are you lonely and lost and finding yourself in one of life’s darkest alleys — if so, tarry no further, but turn to the scripture (the Bible) to be the lamp unto your feet and light unto your path.

Psalm 119:105 (KJV)
105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

The word of God :: Generator

The Bible is a fascinating book, inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right (2 Timothy 3:16; NLT). It is the written word of God.

From the Bible, we learn that the word of God is a GENERATOR – a creator of things anew. In the account of creation, we see that the earth was without form and void and the deep waters was covered with darkness and the Spirit of God hovered over the surface of the waters (Genesis 1:2) and by the word of God, the world and its inhabitants came to be. God said, Let there be light and there was (Genesis 1:3-4).  God said and it was.

In like manner, before we are a new Creation in Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), our life is without form and void (empty), sitting in darkness (Luke 1:79) and the Spirit of God hovers over our life, but when God speaks to us about his Son Jesus Christ, through his spoken (rhema) and written (logos) word – the word of God generates a new life in us, if we listen to him and receive Jesus and believe in his name. This newly generated life is one in which we no longer walk in darkness, but in the Light (1 John 1:5-7).

Points to ponder:
Have you heard or read the word of God, which GENERATES new life in you?

Luke 1:79 (KJV)
79 To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

1 John 1:5-7 (KJV)
This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
