Professional Speaking :: Jesus The Underwriter

Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines the word “Underwriter” as a “Guarantor” and in the field of insurance, someone who writes a policy of insurance. In this regard, would we be able to consider Jesus to be an underwriter?

The Bible says that when it comes to eternal life, all those who believe in Jesus Christ are assured of eternal life. God’s policy of insurance that we will inherit his kingdom is not on any one’s merit but solely on the work of Jesus Christ, who has written the names of all who believe in his book of life (Revelation 21:27) and inscribed our names in the palm of his hands (Isaiah 49:16). Jesus is the Guarantor of our Salvation, by whose blood signature, we have forgiveness of our sins and redemption (Colossians 1:14).

Points to ponder:
Is your name written in the Lamb’s (Jesus’) book of life? Is your name inscribed in the palm of his hands? In other words, have you believed in Jesus The Underwriter.

Isaiah 49:16 (KJV)
16 Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands; thy walls are continually before me.

Revelation 20:15 (KJV)
15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Professional Speaking :: Jesus The Bookkeeper

The “book of life” is mentioned eight times in the New Testament, once in the epistle to the Philippian Church (Philippians 4:3) and seven times in Revelation (Revelation 3:5; 13:8; 17:8; 20:12; 20:15; 21:27; and 22:19). Twice, it is specifically referred to as the Lamb’s book of life (Revelation 13:8; and 21:27). Jesus Christ is the Agnus Dei, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29). So the book of life belonging to the Lamb is infact Jesus’ book of life. Whosoever’s name is not written in the book of life is cast into the lake of fire, which is second death (Revelation 20:14-15), but those who have believed in Jesus Christ have eternal life (John 3:16), and he that overcomes, because the Son of God, Jesus comes over them, when they believe, will not be hurt by second death and his/her name will not be erased from the book of life (Revelation 3:5); Jesus’ book of life, of which He is The Bookkeeper.

Points to ponder:
When Jesus is The Bookkeeper, there is no possibility of any man cooking the books to gain his salvation by any of his works. Salvation and eternal life (getting your name recorded in the Lamb’s book of life) is only possible when we believe in Jesus Christ as our Savior and allow him to be our Lord. Jesus said, rejoice for your names are written in heaven (Luke 10:20). Can you rejoice, with Jesus The Bookkeeper? You can, if he has recorded your name in his book. Has he?

Revelation 21:27 (KJV)
27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Luke 10:20 (KJV)
20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

What is your NEW name?

An encounter with God invariably results in a change of name (even if not literally) and reputation. Abram (Exalted Father) was to be called “Abraham” (the father of many nations). Jacob the heel grabbing deceiver was renamed “Israel” (meaning one who wrestles with God). Saul, the persecutor was changed to Paul, the Apostle to the Gentiles and arguably one of the greatest disciples of Jesus Christ.

The question then remains, if you have already met with God, what are you known for, “What are you going to be called? An even more important question is whether the name that you are going to be called is recorded in the Book of life (Rev 20:15). Think about this, What are you going to be called? What is your NEW Name? God is staking his reputation on YOU and ME.
