Our gift – Precious

Took a few minutes to pen a few words of love and well wishes for our beloved firstborn son, Reuben on his 15th birthday on January 20, 2021, in a Shakespearean sonnet form entitled – Our gift – Precious and while Sangeetha, I and his brother, Ittai express our heartfelt love and well wishes for him, we want you to realize and recognize that the Most Precious gift of all is the gift of God’s son – Jesus Christ – for each one of us.

Reuben – 15th Birthday

Enjoy the sonnet but don’t forget to reflect most important gift of all – our Lord, Savior and King – Jesus Christ.

Note: A Shakespearean sonnet is 14 lines in total with 10 syllables in each line having the rhyme scheme ABAB CDCD EFEF GG

Fifteen years have come and gone by so fast
and we continue to think and reflect –
How God’s love toward us has been so vast
gifting us you, our firstborn son – perfect!

Life because of you is full of wonder!
Seeing you grow in wisdom and stature,
in favor with God and man, we ponder
and pray ye rest always in God’s pasture.

A wonderful son and brother ye art
And our love for you grows stronger each day
Great love for you is anchored in our heart
Which nothing, no nothing can take away!

God has been kind to us, and been gracious
gifting us with you – Reuben – our precious!

Points to ponder:
Have you accepted the most precious gift of all. In other words, have you believed in the Lord Jesus Christ?

Romans 3:23 (KJV)
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Romans 6:23 (KJV)
23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

John 3:16 (KJV)
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Deception brings with it death

While Esau was deprived of his blessing from his father Isaac, for his younger brother Jacob had deceived him and taken the blessing, he starts to hate his brother, with so much hate that he sought to kill (slay) his brother after his father’s death. The deception of Jacob brought with it hate from his brother which in turn brought the threat of death. As you can see hate in the heart turns brother against brother.

Points to ponder:
Deception brings with it death. The deception to disobey God, by the ancient deceiver, the devil (Revelation 12:9), brings with it the threat of death, for the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23), but the gift of God is eternal life to all who chose to obey God and keep his commandments to love God above all and love mankind as themselves (Matthew 22:36-40).

When love trumps hate, deception and death have no place. If a man says, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar: for he that loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? (1 John 4:20).

Even when it is hard to love someone, we are asked to do so, just as God did, and not hate in our hearts. It comes down to loving God, loving man, lest we be deceived. Be ye not deceived.

Genesis 27:41 (KJV)
41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.

Jesus in the OT :: 2nd Samuel

The book of 1st and 2nd Samuel (originally written as one book) gives us a glimpse of who Jesus is in the Old Testament (O.T).

2nd Samuel talks about a man named Abishai (2 Samuel 23), who is one of David’s fighting men, along with Eleazar, Shammah and Benaiah (who were valiant in battle, mighty men skilled in the art of war and fought fearlessly) of whom it is said that He was more honorable and made commander over even the chiefs of the armies of David  (2 Samuel 23:19). 1 Samuel 26:6-8 records that valiant Abishai goes with David to the camp of Saul, going behind enemy lines. We named our Son’s middle name after this character and also become of its meaning. Abishai means – Gift of God.

Romans 6:23 says that the wages of sin is death, but the Gift of God (but the Abishai) is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (who went behind enemy (ha shaitan – adversary) lines to pay for this gift.

In 2nd Samuel, Jesus is the Abishai (gift of God) who went behind enemy lines to be with us as we walk in the valley of the shadow of death, on earth.

The Ant and the Grasshopper – Gospel

I have shared this story given below several times in my preaching and teaching engagements. The original Author remains unknown. I am not sure if this is a true account or not, but each time I read or hear this story, it warms my heart and evokes a response to love God even more with all my heart, my soul, my strength and my mind. I pray that it is the same response that you are led to as well …

A mother of a 9 year old boy, Mark, received a phone call in the middle of the afternoon. It was the teacher from her son’s school.
“Mrs. Smith, something unusual happened today in your son’s third grade class. Your son did something that surprised me so much that I thought you should know about it immediately.”
Mother’s seldom want to hear from their child’s teacher in the middle of the day. The mother was uneasy and nervous by such a beginning to a phone call. “What now?” the mother wondered.
The teacher continued, “I have been teaching for many years and nothing like this has happened until now. This morning I was teaching a lesson on creative writing. And as I always do, I tell the story of the ant and the grasshopper. The ant works hard all summer and stores up plenty of food. But the grasshopper plays all summer and does no work.
Then winter comes. The grasshopper begins to starve because he has no food. So he hops to the ants house and begins to beg. ‘Please Mr. Ant, you have much food please let me eat, too.’ Now boys and girls your job is to write the ending to the story.
Your son, Mark, raised his hand. “Teacher, may I draw a picture?”
“Well, yes, Mark, if you like, you may draw a picture. But first you must write the ending to the story.”
The papers came in. As in all the years past, most of the students said that the ant shared his food through the winter and both the ant and the grasshopper lived.
As always, a few children said, ‘The ant said, “No, Mr. Grasshopper. You should have worked in the summer and not played. Now, I have just enough food for myself.” So the ant lived and the grasshopper died.
But your son ended the story in a way different from any other child, ever. He wrote, “So the ant gave all of his food to the grasshopper; the grasshopper lived through the winter. But the ant died.
“And the picture?
At the bottom of the page, Mark had drawn three crosses. “Jesus gave up his life so that we might live eternally”

Matthew 20:28 (KJV)
28 Even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Law of Sinful Inertia

First law
Lex I: Corpus omne perseverare in statu suo quiescendi vel movendi uniformiter in directum, nisi quatenus a viribus impressis cogitur statum illum mutare. Every body persists in its state of being at rest or of moving uniformly straight forward, except insofar as it is compelled to change its state by force impressed.
There exists a set of inertial reference frames relative to which all particles with no net force acting on them will move without change in their velocity. This law is often simplified as “A body persists its state of rest or of uniform motion unless acted upon by an external unbalanced force.” Newton’s first law is often referred to as the law of inertia.

Newton’s First Law (Lex I) which is “Corpus omne perseverare in statu suo quiescendi vel movendi uniformiter in directum, nisi quatenus a viribus impressis cogitur statum illum mutare.” is often simplified as ‘Every body persists in its state of being at rest or of moving uniformly straight forward, except insofar as it is compelled to change its state by force impressed’. Newton’s first law is often referred to as the law of inertia.

An application of this physical law in our Spiritual life could be used to derive what I call the Law of Sinful Inertia. The Law of Sinful inertia states that “everybody persists in their state of  death in trespasses and sins or in moving disobediently on the broad way that leads toward destruction, except insofar as they are compelled to change their lives by the grace and gift of God in the person of Jesus Christ.”

Ephesians 2:1-8 (KJV)
1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7 That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Jesus Christ, God’s Gift; THE PRESENT to mankind

If I was to ask you as to what the gift of God is toward mankind, the chances are that your answers may be one of the following – salvation, eternal life, a restored relationship with God, all of which are scripturally correct, but how often do we think of the gift of God is the person of Jesus Christ, God manifest in the flesh for us.

I can’t quite remember who it was that first said that the gift of God is an INCREDIBLE, INDISPUTABLE and INDISPENSABLE gift, but believe that the inspiration was truly divine. Jesus Christ, God’s gift The PRESENT to mankind is One you and I can freely receive and cherish. Jesus Christ is truly Incredible, Indisputable and Indispensable.

Incredible because of His

  • Origin from God (For God)
  • Overflow of Love (So)
  • Object of Affection (The world, you and me)

Indisputable, because He is

  • Definite (That)
  • Sacrificial (He Gave)
  • Unique (Only begotten Son)

Indispensable, in that He

  • Reaches all of Humanity (Whoever believes in Jesus)
  • Rescues from Hell (Shall not perish)
  • Redeems us for Heaven (but have eternal life)

Have you received this Indescribable Gift?

John 3:16 (KJV)
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Presence and Present

The LORD God sought his priceless of creation, Adam and his wife in the cool of day, but they hid themselves from the PRESENCE OF THE LORD God due to fear that came as a result of their disbelief in God words, beguiled by the devil, that led them to disobey the LORD God (Genesis 3:8-13).

Driven from the presence of God, the gift that man could receive is to be able to once again enjoy the presence of His creator, the LORD God. This gift (present) that was given so that we return into the presence of the LORD God was given on a tree. On Christmas, we often look for the presents under the tree, and seldom do we see (Jesus Christ) THE PRESENT on the tree (Cross). Jesus’ crucifixion paid the wages of sin in full (no debt anymore) so that man no longer will need to hide from the PRESENCE of the LORD God.

What’s even more is that with the ascension of Jesus into the presence of LORD God after his resurrection from the dead, He sent us His Spirit to be with us so that GOD can be PRESENT IN US according to his promise, “I will be with you until the ends of the age” (Matthew 28:20). The Bible also records that Jesus Christ entered into heaven to appear in the PRESENCE OF GOD for us (Hebrews 9:24). Jesus is our proxy in Heaven, until the day of the Lord, in which we shall all be together.

So succinctly, it can be said that The presence of the Spirit of Jesus in you is THE PRESENT (gift) of God that brings eternal life, life forever in the PRESENCE OF THE LORD God (John 3:16).

Point(s) to Ponder:

  • Are you hiding from the presence of God because of unconfessed sin in your life? If so, let us confess now, for He is Faithful and just to cleanse us of ALL unrighteousness.
  • Do you know Jesus Christ, THE PRESENT (gift of God) on the Cross who has paid the wages for ALL of your sin, as your LORD and Savior? He is now our proxy in heaven!
If you have not yet received Jesus, God’s PRESENT to you, I beseech you to believe in Him so that you will have no reason to hide anymore from the presence of God!
If you have already received Jesus, God’s PRESENT to you, are you enjoying the PRESENCE of the LORD God or should the question really be “Is the LORD God enjoying your presence with Him?
