Christian Acronym :: H.E.L.P

When one is in need, they often seek the provisional assistance for another and when assistance is given, they are said to have been helped. But what is help? Is it one’s provisions or their presence that defines ‘Help’? From the Bible, we learn that God is our helper. H.E.L.P is His Ever Loving Presence. The Psalmist asks, “Where does my help come from?” and answers “My help comes from the LORD.” It is not only His provisions but His Presence that helps us.

Jesus said, “Lo, I am with you always!”. In other words, His being with us (Presence) is a promise that we can count on. Jesus is our Helper. His Ever Loving Presence (H.E.L.P) is promised and assured.

Psalm 121:1-2 (KJV)
1
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help.
2
My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.

Matthew 28:18-20 (KJV)
18
And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Christian Verbs :: H is for Helping

One of the very first statements in which God said, it is NOT good had to do with ‘help’ for man (Genesis 2:18). It was not good for man to be alone, and since we know that man was created in the image of God, we can recognize that it is not good for the creator to be alone (without the fellowship of his creation) as well. This is the very reason that God sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to help in the restoration of the relationship that man had severed through his disobedience and rebellion. And what is interesting is that, in order to even belief this truth about Jesus and His power over spiritual bondage, we need to pray a prayer for help, as the father of the son who was afflicted by a dumb spirit expressed, “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.” (Mark 9:17-24). And when God delivers us from spiritual bondage when we believe in His Son, assuring us eternal life (John 3:16), we as Christians are expected to return the unmerited favor, by helping others see the Truth, as well (2 Corinthians 1:10-12).

Points to ponder:

  1. The Apostle Paul called Priscilla, Aquila, and Urbane his helpers in Christ Jesus (Romans 16:3; Romans 16:9). Can you and I be known as helpers in Christ Jesus?
  2. The Prophet Samuel took a stone and called in Ebenezer (meaning Stone of Help) because the LORD had helped his people against their enemies. Can you or I be the Ebenezer for someone i.e., Can you or I be the stepping stone of help for someone to come to know Jesus Christ, the Rock of Help (Deuteronomy 32:4) .

2 Corinthians 1:10-12 (KJV)
10
Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us;
11
Ye also helping together by prayer for us, that for the gift bestowed upon us by the means of many persons thanks may be given by many on our behalf.
12
For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.
