Jesus Christ – Hobson’s Choice

Recently I came across the term “Hobson’s Choice” and was intrigued by what it meant. While researching the origin of this phrase, I came across “The Phrase Finder” wherein the following was stated to describe the meaning of the term “Hobson’s Choice.” “Thomas Hobson (1545–1631) ran a thriving carrier and horse rental business in Cambridge, England, around the turn of the 17th century. Hobson rented out horses, mainly to Cambridge University students, but refused to hire them out other than in the order he chose. The choice his customers were given was ‘this or none’; quite literally, Hobson’s choice.”

When you are presented with Hobson’s Choice, the only options that is given is to either “accept” or “refuse” the offer that is given to you.

Jesus Christ is the Hobson’s Choice of God to man. God offered his only begotten Son to take our place on the cross and everyone who believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life, but the choice is ours to make. You can either choose to believe in Jesus or not. You can either “accept” or “refuse” God’s offer to man. There is no other option – no other way for the Salvation of our souls, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved, other than the name of Jesus (Acts 4:12).

Points to ponder:
What is your choice?  Choose ye this day to “accept” Jesus Christ and be saved!

Acts 4:12 (KJV)
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

The word of God :: Guide

The Bible is a fascinating book, inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right (2 Timothy 3:16; NLT). It is the written word of God.

From the Bible, we learn that the word of God is a GUIDE – a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. When you walk through life’s darkest alleys (such as abuse, alcoholism, addiction, depression, etc), and you feel lonely and lost with no one to show you the way to Peace, you can count on the Bible and turn to it to show you the light on your’s life’s path – for in it you will find the Light of the world (John 8:12), Jesus Christ, who is THE WAY (John 14:6)

Points to ponder:
Are you lonely and lost and finding yourself in one of life’s darkest alleys — if so, tarry no further, but turn to the scripture (the Bible) to be the lamp unto your feet and light unto your path.

Psalm 119:105 (KJV)
105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

Transitive Relationship

In Mathematics, there is this principle called transitive relations, which notes that when one element is in relation to a second element and the second is in relation to a third element, then it is implied that the first element is in relation to the third element, as the relation “less than or equal to.” In layman’s terms, this principle simply states that if A<=B and B<=C, then A<=C. Of course, during my college days, jokes such as the following used to abound in the campus when learning this principle. If the Mathematics Professor loves his daughter and His student loves the Professor, then does it not mean that the student loves the Professor’s daughter, by virtue of transitive relations. Levity aside, I was reminded of this principle when reading the Bible.

It is believed that the etymology of the word ‘transitive’ is from Late Latin transitivus; from Latin transitus, which literally means “that may pass over (to another person)“. The scripture avers that “And ye are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s” (1 Corinthians 3:23). Transitively, God has passed over to us, because of Jesus Christ, the passover Agnus Dei, the Lamb of God. Jesus Christ has made a transitive relationship with God possibly and no wonder He affirmed, no man comes to God, the Father, but by Him (and Him alone). There is no other way, for Jesus is the ONLY way. What a wonder it is to realize that we are in a relationship with God the Father when we believe in the name of Jesus. And you and I are Christ’s and Christ is God’s.

John 14:5-7 (KJV)
5
Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
7
If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
