The Sons of Jacob :: Dan (and Jesus Christ)

Dan was fifthborn of the sons of Jacob. He was born to Bilhah, Rachel’s servant and Jacob. Dan  means “judged”. He was so named by Rachel who expressed that with his birth, God had heard her plea and given her a son and she now felt that we was vindicated (proved right or justified) by God.

Points to ponder:
Rachel felt that God had judged her and found her justified (proved right) for he gave to her through her servant Bilhah, a son. God gave the world his Son to justify and prove right the world that had fallen due to the sin of man. The sinless became sinful so that the sinless can become sinless for God made him [Jesus] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be vindicated i.e., made the righteousness of God in him (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Additionally, God has entrusted his Son, Jesus Christ, the absolute authority to judge (John 5:22) all men. It is only by faith in Christ Jesus – believing that he is the Son of God, sent by God, to save and reconciling all mankind back to God, who paid the penalty (wages) of our sins by his death, and was raised by God – that anyone can be made just/righteous (2 Corinthians 5:21; Habakkuk 2:4).

Rachel felt that she was proved right? Do you? In other words, if Christ Jesus was to judge you and me today, would he find us vindicated / justified / proved right / righteous? In other words, do you believe in Jesus?

Genesis 30:3-4 (KJV)
Then she said, “Here is Bilhah, my servant. Sleep with her so that she can bear children for me and I too can build a family through her.”
So she gave him her servant Bilhah as a wife. Jacob slept with her, and she became pregnant and bore him a son. Then Rachel said, “God has vindicated me; he has listened to my plea and given me a son.” Because of this she named him Dan.

2 Corinthians 5:21 (KJV)
21 For he [God] hath made him [Jesus] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Not guilty, yet sentenced

Jesus was not guilty, but yet he suffered and was sentenced for the guilty, so that he could bring us (the guilty) to God (1 Peter 3:18). Where is the justice in all of this? Wait, justice is coming when Jesus returns (Revelation 19:11; John 16:11).

Only if we believe in Jesus, to be our Savior, Lord and King, would we be able to face God with the verdict of “not guilty” for Jesus’ righteousness is imputed on us (2 Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 3:9; Romans 4:3). Otherwise, guess what, we are all guilty of sin as charged!

Points to ponder:
Are you ready to face Jesus, The Judge when he returns? What will be your sentence? Stop refusing him and rebelling against him, but instead humble yourself, remember, repent and return to the Lord Jesus today, for today is your day of being declared “Not guilty” (2 Corinthians 6:2). He will accept you just as you are. Just believe.

1 Peter 3:18 (KJV)
18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

Professional Speaking :: Jesus The Judge

Well, you have probably heard of the phrase “God will judge you!” and never paused to wonder as to who this God is that will judge us? The Bible says, Jesus is the Judge that is ready to judge the living and the dead (1 Peter 4:5) but can we be so certain?

The answer to the question”How to become a Judge? (in the US legal system)” in HowStuffWorks.com highlights that in order to become a Judge, one must first be a lawyer (having obtained the necessary credentials), get experience and when a Judge’s position becomes vacant, a Judge is appointed or elected. So is Jesus a lawyer? The past article, Jesus The Advocate established the fact that Jesus is The Lawyer/Advocate. Now, is Jesus appointed to be The Judge? The Bible states that the Father (God) judges no man, but has committed all judgment unto his Only begotten Son, Jesus Christ (John 5:22). In other words, Jesus, God’s elect, is appointed by God the Father to be the Judge over all (living and dead). But does Jesus have the experience? John 5:27 states that God has given Jesus the authority, because he is the Son of man. What is interesting to note, is that Jesus is appointed to be the Judge over all men, because he is the only one in the Triune Godhead who has the experience of being a man (John 5:27) and being made in the likeness of man (Philippians 2:7-8), he was tempted as we are, yet without sin and so he can be our advocate, executing righteous judgments (Hebrews 4:15). Jesus is The Judge.

Points to ponder:
Hebrews 9:27 states, that it is appointed unto man to die once and then the judgment. When Jesus, The Judge judges you/me in righteous judgment, is he going to find you/me innocent (having his own righteousness imputed on us for having believed in him) or guilty (rejecting to accept his grace and not believing in him)? We are all guilty until proven innocent. How will you/I face Jesus, The Judge?

John 5:22-30 (KJV)
22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

23 That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.
26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;
27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

Jesus in the OT :: Judges

The book of Judges gives us a glimpse of who Jesus is in the Old Testament (O.T).

In the book of Judges, which should more appropriately be named the “Book of failures”, we see seven distinct cycles of sin and salvation. People go away from God & God raised up Judges to save them (Judges 2:16).

The most pitiable statement that is accurately reflective of our current times is the very last verse in this book (Judges 21:25) which reads “And there was no king in those days and every man did that which was right in his own eyes.” We are in many case no different pursuing our desires and that which pleases our eyes (be it  the pursuit of Power, Position, Prestige, Popularity or Pleasure). But a day of reckoning is coming when God will raise a Judge whose name is Jesus Christ who will arrive as the King of kings and the Lord of lords and judge in righteousness (Rev 19:11) for He is the King of righteousness (Hebrews 7:2)

In Judges, Jesus is a Righteous Judge.
