The Sons of Jacob :: Dan (and Jesus Christ)

Dan was fifthborn of the sons of Jacob. He was born to Bilhah, Rachel’s servant and Jacob. Dan  means “judged”. He was so named by Rachel who expressed that with his birth, God had heard her plea and given her a son and she now felt that we was vindicated (proved right or justified) by God.

Points to ponder:
Rachel felt that God had judged her and found her justified (proved right) for he gave to her through her servant Bilhah, a son. God gave the world his Son to justify and prove right the world that had fallen due to the sin of man. The sinless became sinful so that the sinless can become sinless for God made him [Jesus] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be vindicated i.e., made the righteousness of God in him (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Additionally, God has entrusted his Son, Jesus Christ, the absolute authority to judge (John 5:22) all men. It is only by faith in Christ Jesus – believing that he is the Son of God, sent by God, to save and reconciling all mankind back to God, who paid the penalty (wages) of our sins by his death, and was raised by God – that anyone can be made just/righteous (2 Corinthians 5:21; Habakkuk 2:4).

Rachel felt that she was proved right? Do you? In other words, if Christ Jesus was to judge you and me today, would he find us vindicated / justified / proved right / righteous? In other words, do you believe in Jesus?

3 Then she said, “Here is Bilhah, my servant. Sleep with her so that she can bear children for me and I too can build a family through her.”
4 So she gave him her servant Bilhah as a wife. Jacob slept with her, 5 and she became pregnant and bore him a son. 6 Then Rachel said, “God has vindicated me; he has listened to my plea and given me a son.” Because of this she named him Dan.

Why was Christ Jesus raised from the dead?

We celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ on what is commonly referred to as Easter in most parts of the world, but why Easter? Why was Christ Jesus raised from the dead? The Bible holds the answer to this question and it is recorded in Romans 4:25. Christ was raised from the dead for our justification. In other words, Christ Jesus was resurrected from the dead for making us right with God which some translations of the Bible render as, making as ‘acceptable’ to God.

Those who believe in Jesus’ death and resurrection are imputed the righteousness of Jesus Christ and are justified … These are the ‘just’ who shall live by faith (Habakkuk 2:4) – a faith that should not be futile but fruitful (1 Corinthians 15: 17; Romans 7:4).

Points to ponder:
Since Christ is risen, we who believe in him are made ‘just’ and accepted by God in his beloved, and we as the just must live by faith. Is our faith futile (vain and dead) or is it fruitful (bring forth fruit) unto God?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, let me live by faith, a faith that bears forth the fruit of the Spirit and not be one in vain, as if you never rose from the dead.

Are you and I, a Noah?

During the time of Noah, the Bible describes that the entire human race was totally and perpetually evil and God reels sorry for having made man. God decides to destroy all of the human race he created, along with the land animals, creeping things and the birds of the air, but the Bible says, that Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. It then goes on to describe who Noah was. It is said of Noah, that he was a just man. He was perfect in his generations and he walked with God.

Habakkuk 2:4 states that the just shall live by faith and Noah by faith, not sight. In fact, Noah’s faith was expressed in action. It was not dead faith but living faith, for he obeyed God and built the ark which God had commanded him to do (Hebrews 11:7). Noah was perfect in his generation meaning that it was credited to him as being righteous for his faith (belief) in the Lord God (Romans 4:3). It was the righteousness of God imputed on his for his faith (belief) in God (Philippians 3:9) and not his own for no one is righteous, no not one (Romans 3:10). Like his forefather Enoch, Noah walked with God. The Bible says that unless two are agreed together, they cannot walk as one (Amos 3:3) meaning that Noah was in agreement with God’s will and plan and subjected his own will to the will of God, heeding his voice.

Finally, it is important to note that Noah did not find grace in the eyes of the Lord because he obeyed and did what God commanded him to do i.e., by his works, but Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord because he believed through faith, bringing about the Salvation of his family and through his family, the human race. It was the grace of God that saved him and not his works (the ark).

Points to ponder:
Can it be said of you and me that we would find grace (God’s unmerited favor) in the eyes of the Lord? Salvation comes solely by the grace of God through faith and not by works (Ephesians 2:8)
Can it be said of you and me as was of Noah that we are just, perfect and one who walks with God? In other words, have you believed in Jesus, which imputes on us the perfection (righteousness) of God and do we agree with God to do his will and purpose in and through our lives?

Christian Verbs :: X is for X-ray

When the word X-ray is used as a verb, it means “to examine”. When we go to a doctor, the doctor examines us to determine if we are of good health or if we are sick. Likewise, we are to ask the LORD to examine us. In other words, we are to ask the LORD to X-ray us, so that there are no wicked ways in us, and to lead us in the way everlasting (Psalm 139:23-24)

In addition to the doctor examining us, we often check ourselves at home to make sure that we are healthy. As Christians we need to do the same. We have to take time to introspect ourselves regarding our spiritual health. In other words we need to X-ray (examine) ourselves to ensure that we keep the faith (2 Corinthians 13:5) for the just(ified) shall live by faith (Habakkuk 2:4), as many in the latter days will depart (fall away) from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; (1 Timothy 4:1).
