I AM the Resurrection, and the life

Auguste Comte, the founder of French sociology and the philosophy of positivism, once told British essayist and historian Thomas Carlyle that he was going to start a new religion to replace Christianity. ‘Very good’, replied Carlyle, ‘all you have to do is to be crucified, rise again, and get the world to believe that you are still alive. Then your new religion will have a chance.’

Jesus Christ said, I AM the resurrection and the life and if anyone believes in me, even though he is dead, yet shall he live (John 11:25). The Resurrection is fundamental and the most distinctive hope of all who follow Christ. Without resurrection, all hope is vain (1 Corinthians 15:19). Just as Christ rose from the dead, we shall all be resurrected as well. It is important to note that some will be resurrected to life while others (who have done evil) will be resurrected to damnation (John 5:29). Furthermore, the scripture records that the early church apostles and disciples, and this generation’s people such as Graham Staines and his children, Richard Wurmbrand (founder of Voice of the Martyrs) etc who refused to accept deliverance but were martyred for their allegiance to Jesus Christ, in the line duty will obtain a better resurrection (Hebrews 11:25). They chose death over life so that they may be experience a better resurrection.

Many today choose to live dead lives refusing to believe in Jesus. When we believe in Jesus, we are spiritually resurrected from death and a day of reckoning is coming when we shall physically be resurrected as well (1 Corinthians 15). Those who believe in Jesus have no reason to fear physical death (state of sleep) or spiritual death (eternal separation from God), and can be assured that there will be a translation of their ephemeral physical bodies into celestial bodies that will be eternal. Those who do not believe in Jesus have everything to dread because without Jesus there is no resurrection and no life. Jesus said, I AM the resurrection and the life and only in Him is life, abundant life.

To be or Not to be – a Witness? That is the question

Interestingly, the word for witness in Greek is ‘martyr’. To be a witness of Jesus is to be a martyr, willing to lay one’s life down for Jesus, just as Jesus did for us. To be a disciple of Jesus is not to just COUNT the cost, but PAY it (easier said than done). Can it be said of us that “For to me to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21) or will Jesus rebuke us saying that “We are a generation of little faith”, often forgetting His promises, “Fear NOT” and “Lo, I am with you ALWAYS – Be my Witness.”

As a witness, we are not only called to be martyrs, but Bridge Builders. We have been given 2 pieces of wood and 3 nails to build the cross ‘The ONLY Bridge’ for man to be able to reach God. We are tasked to build the bridge in the shielded minds of those who don’t know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior.

Points(s) to ponder:

  1. Isn’t it time for us to start building the Bridge to God?
  2. Isn’t it time for us to not just count the cost, but be willing to pay it –
To be or not to be – a witness? That is our question.

The Pledge

Woke up in the night with what seemed to be a nightmare. It seemed like the time (of the great tribulation) when those who stood for the name of Jesus Christ were being separated from their families and I was being snatched away from my son (Reuben) and my wife (Sangeetha). What broke me was that I could not bear to see the separation of my son from me. I woke up and found the pillow drenched in tears and was unable to stop sobbing as I walked into my office where my wife was. She asked what was wrong and as I explained to her, what I had dreamt envisioned, she empathized with me and asked that I go back to sleep. I went back to the bedroom and saw the time and it was 11:22 p.m. and I saw my son and held him close and as I reminisced, I realized the depth of the love of our God for each one of us.

John 3:16 says “For God (the greatest) so loved (the greatest story) the world (the greatest number) that he gave (the greatest act) His Only Begotten Son (the greatest gift), that whosoever (the greatest invitation) believes (the greatest simplicity) in Him (the greatest person), shall not perish (the greatest escape) but (the greatest difference) have (the greatest certainty) eternal life (the greatest destiny).

God the Father had to be separated from His Only Begotten Son (Jesus Christ, who despising the shame of the Cross, endured it, considering the Joy that was set before Him; now seated at the right hand of God) so that you and I will not have to be separated from God – Oh what a great Love.

With that thought, a peace came over my heart, wherein I realized,
Lord if I am called to lay my life down for you, may I be given the strength by you, to willingly accept it.
I pledge my allegiance to you, O Lamb of God. This is my prayer to you, O Lord.

I pledge allegiance to the Lamb
With alll my strength, with all I am
I will seek to honor His Commands
I pledge allegiance to the Lamb
To the Lamb of God (Jesus), who bore my pain
Who took my place, and wore my shame
I will seek to honor His Commands
I pledge allegiance to the Lamb
