Jesus Christ – The Ark :: Mysteriously Unique

We are familiar with Noah’s ark that brought about salvation to all who were in it. This ark was commissioned by God and was built amidst an evil and wicked generation until God’s impending judgment by flood destroyed all of mankind (including all land and air organisms). While it is easy to merely focus on the the judgment of God and Noah’s faith, close scrutiny of this account reveals to us, the very Son of God – Jesus Christ. As we dissect this account using the characteristics of Noah’s ark, it doesn’t take much to realize that it is a pre-type of God’s only Son, Jesus Christ, as The One and Only Ark to save mankind. This article is part of the series, Jesus Christ – The Ark.

First and foremost, God tells Noah that he must build the ark with gopher wood. In fact, the word “gopher” is unique as it appears only once in the entire King James Version of the Bible. Though some other (newer) translations have attempt to identify this wood as that of Cypress, there is no conclusive evidence of such speculation. All we know is that gopher wood was a type of wood before the flood that God brought about during the time of Noah. Today, it remains a mystery and is unique of its true identity.

Points to ponder:
The Apostle Paul writes that the mystery that has been hidden from ages and from generations, but is now made manifest to God’s saints, is Christ Jesus in us, the hope of glory. Jesus Christ remains a mystery to some, and some even worship him ignorantly as an unknown God (Acts 17:23) which God overlooked in the past but now commands to repent (Acts 17:30) but the fact remains that he is unique. Just as the ark was the only (unique) means of salvation from the flood of God’s judgment, there is none like Jesus Christ, for their is no other name, given under heaven or earth, by which man can be saved (Acts 4:12), from God’s righteous judgment, when he returns to reign. Is Jesus Christ, still a mystery to you? If he is, ask God the Father to reveal his Son Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, now, before the flood of his judgment comes.

Jesus Christ – Hobson’s Choice

Recently I came across the term “Hobson’s Choice” and was intrigued by what it meant. While researching the origin of this phrase, I came across “The Phrase Finder” wherein the following was stated to describe the meaning of the term “Hobson’s Choice.” “Thomas Hobson (1545–1631) ran a thriving carrier and horse rental business in Cambridge, England, around the turn of the 17th century. Hobson rented out horses, mainly to Cambridge University students, but refused to hire them out other than in the order he chose. The choice his customers were given was ‘this or none’; quite literally, Hobson’s choice.” 

When you are presented with Hobson’s Choice, the only options that is given is to either “accept” or “refuse” the offer that is given to you.

Jesus Christ is the Hobson’s Choice of God to man. God offered his only begotten Son to take our place on the cross and everyone who believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life, but the choice is ours to make. You can either choose to believe in Jesus or not. You can either “accept” or “refuse” God’s offer to man. There is no other option – no other way for the Salvation of our souls, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved, other than the name of Jesus (Acts 4:12).

Jesus’ Prayer :: Selfish?

The first five verses of what is referred to as Jesus’ Great Prayer or the High Priestly Prayer, that is recorded in John 17, goes on as follows and is unique because it publicly records what Jesus prayed for himself. He prays that God glorifies him now.
“These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do. And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.“

While on the surface this may seem to be kind of selfish, and seeking self-glorification, close scrutiny of this prayer, reveals certain hidden treasures; treasures of knowledge that reflect, in essence, who Jesus is.

Jesus started his prayer by looking up to the heaven, and addressing God as Father, stating the time had come. To his earthly mother, Jesus had stated that his time had not yet come (John 2:4), but now to His heavenly Father, Jesus is stating that his time had come. He then goes on to express, that it was God’s time to glorify Him, by saying “glorify thy Son that your Son may glorify you.” (John 17:1). Here Jesus expresses the fact that he is indeed the Only begotten beloved Son of God, in whom God was well pleased because his glory was to be a reflection of God’s glory.

Then Jesus states the power that had been granted unto him, by God the Father, who had sent him; power to save and deliver all who know God the Father and Him. Here he defines eternal life by saying that “Knowing God the Father as the one true God and knowing Jesus Christ” is eternal life. What does it mean to know God? The Bible says, whoever loves, knows God and is born of God (1 John 4:7-8) and he that loveth not, knoweth not God, for God is love. Jesus summed up the law of the prophets in Loving God and Loving Man. Eternal life comes by loving God (i.e., hating sin) above all else and it comes only by Him for there is no other name, under heaven among men, by which one can be saved (Acts 4:12). Here Jesus expresses the fact that He is not only the Son of God, but also the Savior of the world (John 17:3).

Then Jesus states that He had glorified God the Father, and finished the work (of Salvation) that had been entrusted unto him (John 17:4), and reasserts that God the Father now glorifies Him with God’s own glory, which He had with God, before the world began. By using the phrase, “glory which I had with thee before the world began” (John 17:5), Jesus expresses his Sovereignty making himself equal to God, which He rightfully was. Jesus had made himself of no reputation, considering equality with God, as a robbery before he had finished the work, that He had been entrusted to fulfill (Philippians 2:6-7). Now that the time had come, it was time for Jesus to be restored into his heavenly glory and hence his prayer.
