Total Surrender :: Father, into thy hands, I commend my spirit

Jesus’ seventh saying from the Cross is recorded in the gospel according to apostle Luke in chapter 23 verse 46. It reads, “And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

Jesus’ body and blood was given for mankind (1 Corinthians 11:24-25). Jesus’ Holy Spirit was presented to God for approval (which is what commend means) and upon God’s acceptance and approval of Jesus’ sacrifice, of which the Holy Spirit who was surrendered is a witness (Hebrews 10:14-15), God could now send the Holy Spirit of Jesus to dwell within men for we are now the temple of the living God (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

Points to ponder:
Jesus totally surrendered his life and spirit for you and me. He totally surrendered his living Spirit to God so that the living Spirit of God could be sent to dwell within our lives, when we totally surrender ourselves to God. Have you told God, “Father, into your hands, I commend my spirit” as I totally surrender? Have you totally surrendered?

Luke 23:46 (KJV)
46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (KJV)
19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of [received from] God, and ye are not your own?
20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Jesus Gave Thanks :: to be the Sacrifice for us

It is thanksgiving season and there are many reasons for us to be thankful to God for, but have you ever wondered what Jesus was thankful for. Luke 7 records the account of what we generally refer to as the Lord’s supper, wherein Jesus communes with his apostles on the evening of the passover. But before Jesus served his apostles the elements of the cup and the bread, the Bible records, that Jesus first told them, how he, with desire, desired to eat the passover with them (Luke 7:15) and he gave thanks (Luke 7:17, 19). Symbolically the bread he broke and the cup he passed over to his apostles, signifies the willful sacrifice of Jesus’ body and blood, which he desired with joy to share with us, for us (Hebrews 12:2).

Points to ponder:
Jesus gave thanks to God for being the perfect, unblemished and acceptable sacrifice (Isaiah 53:10; Hebrews 10:10). He willfully broke himself from his Godship, and humbled himself, to death, even death on a cross (Philippians 2:6-7), shedding his blood by which we all have pardon from our sins (Matthew 26:28). Jesus’ desire is to commune with you and me. Are we willing to take him in? We can give thanks this thanksgiving season, for Jesus who became the sacrifice for us. Jesus himself did!

Luke 7: 14-20 (KJV)
14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
15 And he said unto them, With desire I have desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer:
16 For I say unto you, I will not any more eat thereof, until it be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.
17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves:
18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
