There is no God :: Just and Savior

It must be pretty important for us to recognize that God is serious when it comes to our recognition that he alone is God. The very first commandment of his is “You shall have no other gods before me.” (Exodus 20:3). The prophet Isaiah, in chapters 44 and 45, records the phrase “there is no God” not once or twice, but five times (Isaiah 44:5,6,8 and Isaiah 45:14,21), each time as the words of God himself. The last time that Isaiah records this saying of God, he qualifies the nature of God as a Just (Righteous) God and a Savior, before affirming that there is none beside him (Isaiah 45:21). Jesus is the Righteous Branch from the line of David, whom God sent to execute judgment and justice/righteousness (Isaiah 23:5; 33:15). All have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23) and the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). God’s pristine righteousness required him to have to judge man for man’s sinfulness, as justice had to prevail. This means that man had a death sentence proclaimed on him. This is where God has to step into the scene himself and is begotten and named Jesus, which means Savior (Matthew 1:21). There is no other God who is a Just God and a Savior.

Points to ponder:
Jesus among other gods stands out for there is no other divinely begotten eternal god; all others are man-made. There is no God like Jesus – for he is the perfect, unblemished, sinless, sacrifice that a Righteous God accepted, which makes him the only provision of Salvation unto all mankind. Have you believed in Jesus Christ as your Savior? There is no God who is a just God and a Savior! Don’t delay in believing that Jesus is Lord. Respond now, for now is the appointed time, now is your day of Salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2).

Isaiah 45:20-22 (KJV)
20 Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save.
21 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the Lord? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.
22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.

“I am” and “I AM”

Irish author St. John Greer Ervine is said to have remarked that the title of the book “What’s Wrong with the World” by G.K. Chesterton should really have been “What’s Wrong with the World, is G.K. Chesterton.” The reason for this comment purportedly stems from the following anecdote. Once, when the Times of London asked several of Britain’s leading intellectuals “What’s Wrong with the World”, the celebrated journalist Gilbert Keith (G.K.) Chesterton sent back a postcard that read: “I am.” Mr. Chesterton, a prolific author and reasoned apologist, who referred to himself as an ‘orthodox’ Christian is likely to have derived his laconic yet profound answer from  John 16:9 and James 1:13. John 16:9 states that the sin of the world is unbelief in Jesus Christ and James 1:13 states that every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust and enticed.

You see, both you and I have no one else to blame but ourselves for the problem of sin. On our own we don’t stand a chance to address this problem. Only by grace and grace alone through faith in Jesus Christ can this problem be addressed. Jesus is the only solution to this universal problem.

Thanks be to God that when we have to respond affirmatively that “I am” what’s wrong with the world, Jesus, the only begotten Son of God, who died for our sins and took our penalty on himself, can respond affirmatively, that “I AM” who’s right with the world. Jesus is the Great I AM.

John 3:16-19 (KJV)
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

5Ps – Problems and Solution

Problem statement: Man is a slave to one or more of the following – Power, Position, Prestige, Popularity and/or Pleasure. An obsession to these things are of the flesh and man must make no provision for gratifying these, but the flesh is weak, though the Spirit is willing.
Solution: There is only One and His Name is Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the Prophecy, proclaimed in the garden of Eden (Genesis 3:15), who came to this world, in the Persona of mankind (Philippians 2:7), and a Passion to save all (Romans 5:8). His death on the Cross and His resurrection comes as the Provision of a Savior (1 Corinthians 1:30) for the Problem of sin (Acts 2:38)

Romans 13:14 (KJV)
14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

Genesis 3:15 (KJV)
15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

Philippians 2:5-7 (KJV)
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

Romans 5:8 (KJV)
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

1 Corinthians 1:30 (KJV)
30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:

Acts 2:38 (KJV)
38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Christmas in a Sentence

A friend of mine was sharing with me as to how he responded when some of his peers asked him about Christmas. He said, On Christmas, Christ-mas be told.
It’s Christmas day in the year of the Lord 2009 AD and as I ponder over what Christmas means and if one was given just 30 seconds to share to someone about Christmas, what would that be?

Christmas is God with us a.k.a. Emmanuel (Matthew 1:23);

Christmas is the fulfillment of a Prophecy (Genesis 3:15, Isaiah 9:6-7)
in the Persona of Jesus Christ  (Matthew 1:21, Philippians 2:6-7)
who joyfully endured the Cross in His Passion (Hebrews 12:2)
subduing all including death and the grave through His resurrection Power (John 11:25; Philippians 3:21)
becoming THE Provision of a Savior (John 19:20)
for the Problem of sin (Romans 6:23).

What other one-liners can be used to describe Christmas? Think about it. Time is short, opportunities are little and we must be prepared to share about Jesus, especially on Christmas where Christ must (mas) be told.
