Nahum 1:5 – Quaking mountains and Melting hills

The first part of Nahum 1:5 reads “The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt.” When the Lord declared his fury against the Assyrians, in Nineveh, who were oppressing the people of Judah (God’s people), his power is described as one, to which even the natural elements (mountains and hills) succumb. So great is God’s power in his presence!

When the Lord delivered David from the hands of his enemies and the hand of Saul, David praised God by expressing that “God heard him when he cried out to the Lord and because of the Lord’s anger, the earth shook and trembled” (2 Samuel 22:8). When God went forth before his people and marched through the wilderness, the earth shook. When God visited his people on Mount Sinai during their Exodus, the mount itself was moved at the presence of God (Psalm 68:7-8) and the hills melted like wax at the presence of the Lord of the whole earth (Psalm 97:5; Judges 5:5) when God spoke (Psalm 46:6).

In the day of the Lord of hosts, everyone who is proud and lofty, and lifted up, like high mountains and hills shall be brought low and the Lord alone shall be exalted (Isaiah 2:12-14).

Points to ponder:
When God comes forth to fight for his people, even all the elements which signify stability, such as mountains and hills, shall shake and melt away at his presence. When Jesus died and yielded up the ghost on the Cross, the earth quaked and the rocks rent, and the graves were opened and the saints that slept were resurrected and came out of the graves after his resurrection (Matthew 27:50-53).
When and where God is present, there is nothing else stable except him. Jesus alone is the strong unshakeable foundation and Rock of our Salvation. Jesus is the presence of God with and in us. He is the Emmanuel, which when interpreted means ‘God with us’ (Matthew 1:23). At his presence, all the proud things of the world are brought low and only he is exalted with a name that is above all names (Philippians 2:9). And at the presence of Jesus is life – resurrected life – for the old things are passed away and the new is come to all who believe in his name (2 Corinthians 5:17). Are you alive with a resurrected life?

Nahum 1:5 (KJV)
5 The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein.

Jesus and Justice

If I was to ask you. “Can you think of one person in this world, who was wronged in life and who deserves Justice?”, who would you think of? Did you think of Jesus?

The judgment that we deserved was poured out on Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son (John 3:16). Jesus was wrongfully accused, mocked, beaten, bruised, and crucified. He was raised by the power of God (1 Corinthians 6:14) and he ascended into heaven (Acts 1:9), and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God (Hebrews 12:2). One day, he will come back again to receive all who believe in Him, so that they can be where he is (John 14:3). And when he comes, he will bring Judgement (aka Justice) and judge the world (John 16:11; Revelation 19:11-21).

Points to ponder:
Jesus – He is coming!
Justice – It is coming!
Are you/I ready to face Jesus, to face Justice?

Revelation 19:11-21 (KJV)
11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
12 His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
13 And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.
14 And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean.
15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords.
17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;
18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great.
19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.
20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.
21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.

John 16:11 (NLT)
11 Judgment will come because the ruler of this world has already been judged.

Our Father :: The Powerful Father God

From the prayer that Jesus taught His disciples we can learn of many characteristics of the kind of God, Our Father, is. In this prayer, he teaches us to praise and give glory to the Name of God, our Father, and seeks that God’s kingdom comes and that His will be done on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10). He ends this prayer, by affirming that the kingdom is of God, and the power and the glory is God’s forever and forever (Matthew 6:13). If there is a kingdom there must be a King. While God is a Father to those redeemed by Jesus Christ, He is also a Powerful King. In fact, He is the King of kings and the Lord of lords, not someone to be trifled with.

Jesus came and preached that the Kingdom of God is near. God’s kingdom is not in word, but in power (1 Corinthians 4:20). It is  the power of God that transforms men and women from sinners to saints; from unrighteousness to righteousness. No one who is unrighteous can enter into the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9). Only those who have been imputed righteousness, because they have believed in Jesus Christ (i.e., born again believers) can see the kingdom of God. (John 3:3). The Kingdom of God is not only a powerful kingdom, but it is also a righteous kingdom for God is THE RIGHTEOUS one and all who inherit his kingdom will be clothed with the righteousness of Christ Jesus. So when we pray to God the Father that His kingdom comes, we are indeed praying that righteous is imputed and that everyone believes in Jesus Christ, for without that exchange of our sinfulness for God’s salvation, one cannot see the kingdom of God or Him as a glorified and Powerful King.

Point(s) to ponder:
Are you part of the kingdom of God i.e., have you been born again?

Matthew 6:10, 15 (KJV)
10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
13 … :For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

John 3:3 (KJV)
3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
