The word of God :: Guard

The Bible is a fascinating book, inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right (2 Timothy 3:16; NLT). It is the written word of God.

From the Bible, we learn that the word of God is a GUARD – against sinning. When we hide the word of God in our hearts, we are guarded from sinning against him (Psalm 119:11). When we find ourselves willfully sinning against God, we must take a moment to see if the word of God is controlling our heart or not, for out of it comes the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23). What you would find is that there is a direct correlation between the quality time spent in meditating on the word of God and our life of holiness.

Points to ponder:
Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control us – we must subdue it and be its master (Genesis 4:7), which is possible when we hide the word of God in our heart. Is your heart and mine, filled with the word of God from his word?

Psalm 119:11 (KJV)
11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Christian Acronym :: E.P.A

The Bible says that the lust of the flesh and of the eyes and the pride of life are of this world (i.e., of this environment) (1 John 2:16), but for all who believe in Christ Jesus, their citizenship is of heaven and not of this world (Philippians 3:20). Yet, we succumb to the pleasures and pressures of this world (environment) and we willfully disobey, sinning against our Creator God, who made us in His image, to be upright in His sight. The Psalmist states that the word of God, when it is hidden in one’s heart, protects that person from sinning against God (Psalm 119:11).

The word of God, when it is hidden in our heart, is the Environmental Protection Agency (E.P.A.) in our life, that keeps us from conforming to the patterns of this world (environment) but transforms us by renewing our minds.

Psalm 119:11 (KJV)
11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
