7 Steps in Christian Life :: Step 7 – Agree (Be of One Accord)

Christian life begins with Christ and continues with Christ, but as we live for Christ, what are some of the steps one has to take.

The word ‘agree’, stems from the Old French a gre meaning “at pleasure, at will” and is used to mean to be in harmony, of one accord, in conformance and not contention.

Step 7 in Christian life is to Agree i.e., be in one accord with Jesus Christ, conforming to his image (Romans 8:29). As we continue to walk in The Light, with the newness of life, we must be in one accord, not only with one another, but in one accord with Jesus Christ himself. In other words, our life should be all about him and his will for us. He should be the host in our life and not the guest. Jesus must increase and we must decrease (John 3:30), so much so that when we see him face to face, the change then, would not have to be substantial.

Points to ponder:
The Bible asks, “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3). We cannot walk in the newness of Life (Romans 6:4), in the Light, having fellowship with Christ Jesus (1 John 1:7), unless we agree (act in accordance) with him. And when we do, we shall walk like Enoch walked, until God took him (Genesis 5:24) i.e., we shall walk for his pleasure, at his will, in harmony, without any contention, but in total conformance and be found in him, not having our own righteousness, but that which is through faith in Jesus Christ (the righteousness of God by faith). (Philippians 3:9-11). Are you and I in agreement with God? Two cannot walk together, unless they are both agreed! In other words, can it be said of you and me, “He/she agreed with God so much so that God took him.”?

The Blood of the Lamb :: Covering

Denis Diderot (1713-1784), who is best known for serving as contributor and chief editor of the Encyclopédie was a prominent French Philosopher, art critic and writer, during the 18th century cultural movement (known as Enlightenment or Age of Reason) among the intellectuals in Europe and America. Diderot is quoted to have said “The blood of Jesus can cover a multitude of sins, it seems to me.” Interestingly even though we often hear such a phrase in our churches, the Bible never directly talks about the “Blood of Jesus” as something that covers. However, extrapolating from a few other verses in the Bible, we see that the “Blood of Jesus is a Covering.”

1 Peter 4:8 says, “… Love covers a multitude of sins.”
Proverbs 10:12 affirms “Love covers all sins.”
1 John 1:7 states that if we have fellowship with God, the blood of Jesus his Son, cleanses us from all sins.
John 3:20 informs us that God loved the world so much that he gave us Jesus, his Only begotten son. Jesus is therefore God’s expression and personification of  love and by substituting the word ‘love’ with the Name ‘Jesus’ in the before mentioned verses, we get “… Jesus covers a multitude of sins” and “Jesus covers all sins“. Jesus covers all sins because his blood cleanses all sins. In other words, the blood of Jesus, the Lamb of God, covers all sins.

James 5:20 reads “.. he who converts a sinner from the error of his ways shall save his soul from death and hide a multitude of sins.”
During the exodus of the Israelites from the land of Egypt, the LORD passed over the houses that had the blood of an unblemished lamb on their doorposts. The blood of the lamb hid the residents and saved them from death. (Exodus 12:13, 23)
Only Jesus can convert a sinner from the error of his ways and save his soul from death and cover a multitude of sins, because Salvation is [solely] of the Lord (Jonah 2:9). The Blood of Jesus Christ, the Passover Lamb hides and covers all those who believed in his Name.

Points to ponder:
The Blood of Jesus is a covering. Have you believed in him, for in doing so, your sins shall be hidden from God’s wrath and your soul saved from death. In other words, Are you under the covering of the Blood of the Lamb?

As we watch for the return of the Lord Jesus Christ, while we are on our journey to be with him in heaven (.heaven), the three W’s (www) of our Christian life (.christianlife) should be to:
Walk in the light as he is in the light (1 John 1:7)
Work for him as Ambassadors on a mission (2 Corinthians 5:9, 20)
Worship God and none other (Revelation 19:10)

Points to ponder:
If we have fellowship with Jesus Christ on earth, which comes by walking in the light, working for him and worshipping Him alone, we will have fellowship with him, when Jesus returns to reign, at which time we will continue to walk in Him (The LIGHT), work for him (serve him) and worship him.

Lesser known characters :: Gaius

Gaius is the individual to whom the writer (elder) of 3 John addresses his letter. But what is noteworthy of Gaius is that he was said to be one whose was spiritually very healthy, i.e., the one whose soul prospered (3 John 1:2). The elder wishes that in like manner, may Gaius have physical health (3 John 1:2). Additionally the testimony of believers about Gaius was that he walked in the truth and was hospitable not only to those whom he knew, but also to strangers (3 John 1:3,5). Gaius is counseled to follow God and not evil (3 John 1:11).

What can we learn from Gaius?
First, we must be spiritually healthy, meaning we must live in such a manner that our soul prospers. Remember, Jesus’ question, what profit is it to a man (or woman) who can gain the whole world and yet lose his soul (Matthew 16:26). We must deny ourselves and take up our Cross and follow Jesus daily (as Gaius did). Second, we must walk in the truth. To walk in the truth is to have fellowship with Jesus Christ, for the Bible says, “If we say that we have fellowship with him [Jesus], and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” (1 John 1:6,7). Third, we must be hospitable accepting our own and strangers, especially ministers who have committed their lives to going out and preaching the good news of Jesus Christ. This way, like Gaius, we would be deemed as fellow helpers to the truth (3 John 1:8).
